Today Microsoft finally updated the 1st and 2nd generation Windows Phone devices to the long awaited 7.8 7.8 is the version of Windows Phone 7, which brings some of the features of Windows Phone 8 to the platform, as WP7 devices will not get the full Windows Phone 8 release, allegedly because of incompatibility with the hardware platform and the windows phone 8 kernel. If you don''t receive the update in Zune, fear not – you can force it through in these simple steps:

1.Set phone in fly-mode 1.Connect phone with computer 1.Start up zune, check for update 1.Wait 3-4 seconds and unplug your network cable / disconnect from control panel. 1.Wait for the phone to update 1.Repeat for all two-three updates. 1.Enjoy your new home-screen!

On my Lumia 900, I received 1 update from Nokia and 2 from Microsoft. For the curious people, my Lumia 900 now runs:OS: 7.10.8858.136Firmware: 2175.2905.8853.12440Bootloader: 7.17.2.0 For an overview of the changes in 7.8, check out this blogpost from Microsoft.
